Christmas in Spain - Three Kings of the Magi Day - January 6
Known in the Anglo-Saxon world as the Epiphany, the arrival of the Magi is expected in Spain with great expectation and multitudinous celebrations around this event. The celebrations officially begin the evening before the Epiphany, on the night of January 5, when the Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos is celebrated in each city and town, when hundreds and hundreds of people go out to the main streets of the urban centers to contemplate the recreation of the arrival of the Magi in the city.
People walk the streets and arrive at the main avenues and squares taking stairs, to be able to stand out above the second or third row of people, hoping to take a bag of sweets or another gift. Because in Spain it is not the Baby Jesus, nor Santa Claus, nor St. Nicholas who wears the ruffles on Christmas Day, but the Three Kings, whose generosity is verified every January 6, the day of the Epiphany.
